Carlos Bernardo Trio with Jack Broumpton and Ryan Rogers
Friday, 20 September 2019
Dinner and entertainment: $60/seat, or entertainment only: $25/seat
The Motley Kitchen's Dinner & Show series kicks off its fifth season on Friday, September 20 with Paris-based, Brazilian guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Carlos Bernardo, performing in a trio featuring Sudbury's own Jack Broumpton on drums and North Bay's Ryan Rogers on bass. Carlos is a jazz/world fusion artist whose career is living proof that music is a universal language. In Sudbury, he has developed an enthusiastic following going back to 2008 for his collaborations with singer-songwriter Patricia Cano, having co-written and arranged both of her albums - This is the New World (2009) and Madre-Amiga-Hermana (2017). In 2018 Carlos came together with Portuguese-Canadian, Louis Simao, to form Velha Guarda, a new group that features their own compositions drawing upon the sounds of jazz and Brazilian music as well as new arrangements of Portuguese folk songs. In the past decade Carlos has also been writing, arranging, recording and touring the world with artists such as London-based Cypriot singer-songwriter Vakia Stavrou and the Brazilian Amora Pera. His main solo recordings are Pacifico (1995), Agua Nova (2002), Trio (2014) and Le Pain Nu - musique du spectacle (2018). Doors open for dinner at 6 pm. Showtime is approximately 7:30 pm
